The Emanuel County Board of Education approved a slight roll back in tax rates at their regular meeting on Monday night. Based on the Tax Digest they approved a millage rate of 13.753 and a Fiscal Year 2015 budget that will total $31 million, 220 thousand dollars. Also approved Monday was the acceptance of the state’s Capital Outlay Agreement where the state would pay all but $110,000 for $864,000 in renovation work on Swainsboro Primary School including new carpet and paint, and an Intergovernmental Agreement with the County and Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office for the School Resource Officers operation. The cost is the same $100,000 as the past year, with $92,000 for the salaries and benefits of two deputies, and up to $8,000 in incidental costs such as training and promotional items. Finally, the Board approved a list of proposed fund raisers for Emanuel County Institute. Tabled to next month’s regular meeting was consideration of fuel, oil, and propane bids for the year to allow addition information to be submitted.
New School Superintendent Dr. Kevin Judy reported to the board and the public that the new school year was off to a great start at Emanuel County Schools. He says there are currently over 4,100 students enrolled. There were very few students non compliant with the new dress code. And since the first day, even the traffic congestion has improved. Dr. Judy thanked the Swainsboro and Twin City Police Departments for their help patrolling school areas and “making sure our parents and students are safe.” var d=document;var s=d.createElement(‘script’);
