City ISO down to a 3

People that live in Swainsboro or within five miles of the city limits should see lower homeowners and business insurance rates over the next few months. Council Member Bobbi Collins and Fire Chief Michael Strobridge announced Monday that a recent Public Protection Classification survey has resulted in a lower ISO rating for the city.
Strobridge commended the hard work of firefighters and pointed out that the improved rating of a 3 is also very desirable to businesses looking for development locations.
In actions of the Swainsboro City Council at their regular meeting on Monday: The City accepted the gift of a parcel of land at 412 South Racetrack Street. The previous house there had suffered a fire and was demolished by the city. The use of the parking lot at the new Fire Station for a Blood Drive on next Wednesday August 13th was approved. This will allow parking space for the Bloodmobile near Dr. Holsonback and Haddock’s office. In connection with an application to become a Main Street City, an area of downtown was approved for that district. And the application from Roger Richards for beer and wine sales on premises at New Image at 406 North Coleman Street was approved.
In committee reports, Councilperson Cleve Edenfield reports the Waste Water Treatment Plant passed its final Environmental Protection Division inspection and is now operating under a new permit.
Council member Johnny Ray Stafford says his committee will meet one more time and next month have recommendations for an ordinance on the use of golf carts and ATV’s on city streets.
Another pressing matter appears to be the overgrowth of right of ways. The needed purchase of a new side arm for the mowing tractor will be taken up at a special budget meeting to be held Monday, August 11th at 5 p.m.
